Furnishing a balcony in an apartment building depends on its size, individual needs, financial possibilities, and, above all, the creativity of the apartment owners. Skillfully arranged, it can become one of the most important places in the apartment, allowing direct contact with nature.
First of all:
1. Take care of the floor and walls
Many people wonder what to put on the balcony floor. Usually, the choice falls on tiles – however, these can cause problems. To minimize the risk of problems such as slipperiness, choose frost-resistant and non-slip stoneware tiles. What about the balcony instead of tiles? You can opt for artificial grass, but also for stone cladding or composite flooring. Remember that the flooring and walls are the background for the entire arrangement.
2. Choose furniture
The basic and most important element of balcony equipment is comfortable seating furniture. This can include armchairs, chairs, poufs, or seats made from pallets. That's not all. For storing balcony accessories, such as chair cushions or watering cans, you will also need a balcony cabinet or shelf. If you can't imagine summer days without sunbathing, also reach for a balcony lounger – it can be foldable so it doesn't take up space when you're not using it.
3. Reach for plants
Balcony flowers are not just petunias and surfinia, but a whole range of flowering and green plants. Depending on whether your balcony is sunny or shady, you can choose roses, hostas, lavender, conifers, ornamental grasses, and many other plants. At the same time, choose balcony planters that can be placed or hung on the railing. Freestanding balcony pots in various sizes look great on the floor, but also placed on a shelf or plant stand.
4. Choose accessories
Reach for items such as a balcony mat, chair cushions, and lighting elements – for example, lanterns.
