The final of the 4th European edition of Pepco Better Move: thanks to the huge commitment of employees who covered over 180,000 kilometers, 30,000 euros were raised for non-governmental organizations from 5 countries – Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, and Italy. All funds were donated to support children excluded from sports and to organize physical activities during holidays.
Better Move combines pleasure with usefulness
The Better Move program is a cyclical initiative that encourages Pepco employees to engage in sports activities during the summer months. Participants compete for the highest number of points – they earn them by walking, running, and cycling, and each kilometer covered contributes to the monetary sum that Pepco donates to non-governmental organizations. From May 27 to July 27, points could be earned to support the self-development opportunities of children and youth affected by sports exclusion. This year's program also included missions, during which participants had the opportunity to engage in activities together with their children, which supported building family bonds and developing healthy habits in the youngest.
As early as 2021, the campaign covered only Polish Pepco employees, and in the 4th edition of Better Move, nearly 600 Pepco employees from over a dozen European countries participated, as well as employees of Pepco Global Sourcing (PGS), covering a total of over 180,000 kilometers and reducing emissions by approximately 973 kg of CO2. The kilometers collected were converted into the amount of 30,000 euros and donated to 5 European charitable organizations.
5 countries, 5 unique initiatives
The funds raised during this year's Better Move edition were divided among 5 unique projects supporting children in various countries – Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, and Italy.
In Poland, thanks to the funds raised, 85 children from small towns at risk of exclusion participated in beach volleyball workshops under the guidance of professional coaches. The classes were organized on August 6 by the Arkadiusz Gołaś Memorial Foundation at a professional sports facility – at the Beach Volleyball Academy courts in Poznań.
In addition to the Polish foundation, the donation was made to support a summer camp organized by the Sport Senza Frontiere foundation in Italy, where 30 children from poor districts of Milan, Rome, and Naples have the chance to spend time actively and develop their skills.
In Romania, funds were transferred to the Ana și Copii association for 50 children at risk of social exclusion. By financing their participation in recreational, sports, and cultural activities, children creatively spend their free time during summer holidays.
Children from Latvia also received support, participating in the 9th "Hope for Mundial" Children's Orphanage World Cup in Warsaw on August 10-11, and 100 children from the SOS Children's Villages crisis center located in Lithuania. Thanks to the donated funds, the children are enjoying a renovated playground, which provides a safe and active environment for play.
